The Â鶹´«Ã½ Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry will welcome new students to its annual COSMIC (Careers, Opportunities, Scholarships for Majors, & Information for Chemists) Kickoff on Thursday, Aug. 20 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:35 p.m., as part of KSU Kickoff.
Designed primarily for incoming chemistry and biochemistry majors, the event is open to all Â鶹´«Ã½ students, regardless of major or class standing, who are interested in learning more about the department, its academic programs and the many opportunities available to undergraduate students.
The morning begins with a welcome from department leadership, followed by sessions covering how to navigate the first week of classes, degree requirements, and advising resources. Students will also enjoy live chemistry demonstrations, hear firsthand from current majors during a student panel, and connect with faculty, staff and student organizations during a resource fair.
Throughout the event, attendees will have the opportunity to explore the department's facilities through guided tours of the instrumentation laboratories and the department's glassblowing shop, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the specialized resources available to chemistry and biochemistry students.
COSMIC Kickoff provides students with an opportunity to begin building connections before the semester starts. Participants can meet faculty members, connect with current students, learn about undergraduate research opportunities, discover student organizations and campus resources, and gain valuable insight into what to expect as a chemistry or biochemistry major.
The event is free to attend and is part of Â鶹´«Ã½'s KSU Kickoff programming, which helps students prepare for a successful start to the academic year.
